Police search for cult connections

Police yesterday raided six facilities of the doomsday cult behind the 1995 fatal gassing on the Tokyo subways. The officers were looking for clues into the kidnapping of the son of the cult's former leader.

Police were searching for three suspects, including two daughters of former Aum Shinri Kyo cult guru Shoko Asahara, on suspicion of kidnapping Asahara's seven-year-old son last month.

At dawn on January 21, the suspects allegedly broke into the house where Asahara's son was living in Asahimura and took the boy away.

Police found the boy unharmed last month in a lodging house in the resort town of Hakone, 90 kilometres southwest of Tokyo.
