How "Falun Gong" Harassed
Me and My Family?

My
name is He Zuoxiu. I was born in Shanghai on July 27, 1927.
I graduated from the Department of Physics of Tsinghua (Qinghua)
University in 1951. After graduation, I served as assistant
research fellow, research fellow and deputy director at
the Contemporary Physics Institute of the Chinese Academy
of Sciences (CAS), the Dubno United Nucleon Research Institute.
At present, I am a research fellow with the CAS Theoretical
Physics Institute. In 1980, I was elected a CAS academician.
I have been doing research on theoretical physics for many
years, and published more than 300 scientific treatises
on particle and space theories, dark matter and other subjects.
In recent years, I have been working in cooperation with
the L3 Group led by Prof. Samuel C.C. Ting with the Geneva-based
West European Center, looking for a possibly existent long-life
heavy particle and measuring the energy spectrum of neutrinos
emerging from underground,
As
of last year, I have written some short articles criticizing
"Falun Gong" and gave brief interviews on TV.
This led to "Falun Gong" harassment of my family
on many occasions. In May last year, the Beijing TV Station
broadcast a talk of mine, mentioning a case of a postgraduate
in my institute who became distraught after practicing "Falun
Gong," which enraged the cult. Apart from massing more
than 1,000 people to besiege the Beijing TV Station, it
sent many "Falun Gong" practitioners to my home
to debate with me. They also mailed more than 200 letters
to attack me.
In
April this year, the magazine Teenage Science-Technology
Outlook, published in Tianjin, carried a short article of
mine entitled "I'm Opposed to Qigong Practice by Teenagers."
In the article I criticized "Falun Gong" claim
that an engineer, by practicing "Falun Gong,"
was able to separate his "true spirit" from his
body and enter into a steel-smelting furnace. At another
point, I mentioned that a postgraduate in my institute had
two relapses of mental disorder each time after he practiced
"Falun Gong." This short article made the "Falun
Gong" organization even more furious. Between April
23 and 25, they constantly rang my home, either debating
with me or scolding me. My telephone answering machine,
which can only record 30 calls, was full every day with
calls from "Falun Gong" practitioners. They also
sent many people to my home, insisting on engaging me in
a "debate." From early morning to evening, they
sent seven groups with each group comprising of three to
five people, and each group stayed for as long as an hour.
I
told them, "Your 'Falun Gong' preaches 'truthfulness,
benevolence and tolerance, but your actions don't show any
'tolerance.' The Bible says Jesus admonishes people when
somebody slaps your left cheek, you should turn your right
cheek to him, and this is a typical example of 'tolerance.'
Now, I've only written a short article, but you sent so
many people to my home. This is poles apart from 'tolerance.'
You can write articles to refute my article, or go to the
court to charge me with undermining your reputation. But,
you sent so many people here for a 'debate' with me. This
is undemocratic and outrageous."
During
that period, I received a lot of letters, filled with a
torrent of abuse. I even received such a letter today. In
his speech in Sydney on June 2, Li Hongzhi heaped abuse
on me, saying, "He Zuoxiu is a scientific scoundrel."
I
think "Falun Gong" under the control of Li Hongzhi
is an organization purely intent on disrupting public order
of the society. It could not bear even a simple criticism,
and is an illegal organization full of overbearing temperament.
Its theory and acts are very similar to heretical cults
in the West.
